MAT-Fly: An Educational Platform for Simulating Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Aimed to Detect and Track Moving Objects

The main motivation of this work is to propose a simulation approach for specific task within the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) field, i.e., visual detection and tracking arbitrary moving objects. In particular, it described MAT-Fly, numerical platform multi-rotor aircraft characterized by ease use control development. based on Matlab MathWorks Virtual Reality (VR) Computer Vision System (CVS) toolboxes that together simulate behavior quad-rotor while car moves along nontrivial path. VR toolbox has been chosen due familiarity students have with because does not require notable effort user learning development phase thanks its simple structure. overall architecture quite modular so each block can be easily replaced others simplifying code reuse customization. Some testbeds are presented show validity how works. simulator released as open-source, making possible go through any part system, available educational purposes.
